SINGLETON Countryfest organisers expect to draw a crowd of 7,000 people to this year’s event at the Singleton Showground.
A major drawcard for Countryfest is the running of the national Wife-Carrying titles but this year another major event will rival the Wife-Carrying stakes.
Countryfest will host the Integra Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Challenger Series with Australia’s best bull riders and bucking bulls expected to arrive in Singleton to compete.
The PBR Challenger Series is a feeder into the Australian premier league of bull riding – the Bundaberg Rum PBR Touring Pro.
The PBR Challenger Series provides Australian riders the opportunity to qualify for the Superbowl of bull riding – the lucrative Built Ford Tough PBR World Finals in Las Vegas where more than $3 million prizemoney is offered.
The stakes at Singleton Showground are expected to be high and competition will be fierce as riders battle it out for precious qualifying points and $6,000 in prizemoney.
Countryfest co-organiser, Lindy Clydsdale said they were thrilled to welcome the Challenger Series to Singleton and said the event would draw people from
all over to watch Australia’s best bull riding,” she said.
“PBR is the Olympics of Bull-Riding.
“These bull riders are professionals not just sport riders, this is where they make their money.
“The money they win and points they accumulate goes towards the World event in Las Vegas, which is huge.”
Big names expected to attend the Integra PBR include Australia’s only bull rider to win a World title, Troy Dunn.
Mrs Clydsdale said PBR organisers call the challenger series “sports entertainment spectacular wrapped in a rock concert environment”.
The PBR event will kick off at 6.30pm on Saturday, April 12 after the running of the Wife Carrying championships.
