SINGLETON is well represented at the Combined High Schools State Athletics Carnival in Sydney this week.

Singleton High has a strong contingent of athletes.

The13-years girls relay team will compete in the 4 x 100metres. The team consists of Holly Fisher-Webster, Sara Hedges, Angela Parkes and Katie Sampford.

The 14-years girls relay team consisting of Tori Cowburn, Brianna Woodward, Bree Nichols and Samantha Parkes will run the 4 x 100 metres race.

Ashleigh Noble will compete in the long and triple jump, Alyssa Simon will race in the 100metre individual, Clayton Ellis long jump and Ellie Walker will compete in the shot put.

The St Catherine’s Catholic College Diocesan Athletics team represented Singleton extremely well at the regional Diocesan Athletics Carnival in Glendale last week, with four of the team making it to the State competition.

A total of 25 students competed in a range of track and field events with the school having successes in the under 12s, 13s and 14s age categories. Only those who came first in their event went through to be able to compete at state level at Homebush this weekend.

The squad did fantastically and being one of the smallest at the carnival, was highly competitive with many team members getting placings across various events.

In the under 12s boys group, Daniel Weller got first place in the 1500m race and will compete at Homebush. For the under 12s girls Jessica Alexander will be competing in the 100m, 400m and long jump after getting first place in the events at Glendale.

In the under 13s boys it is Bradie Smith who will be representing the region in the 200m, 400m and high jump.

It is not the first time that Smith has competed at state level. Last year he represented the region in the 200m race.

Competing in the 400m and 1500m race for the under 14’s age group at the state carnival will be Elise Smith.

All athletes who competed did exceptionally well at the Glendale carnival and best of luck to those competing this weekend.

The Combined High School event started yesterday and will wrap up on Saturday. It will be held at the State Athletics Centre at Homebush.
