LOCAL football goalkeeper Scott Carter (pictured below) is still on a high from his teams win in the NBN state league football grand final.
Broadmeadow Magic FC and Azzurri FC fought out a scoreless draw after normal time and two extra periods of 15 minutes. The game came down to penalties with Scott and Azzurri keeper Ben Kelly holding the hopes of both sides in their gloves. In the end it was Broadmeadow who walked away with the spoils, scoring four of their five penalties, while Azzurri could only manage three of their five chances. It all came down to the last penalty with Azzurri’s skipper Josh Maguire's penalty shot hitting the crossbar, sending Magic supporters into raptures.
Broadmeadow Magic FC have had a fantastic year as a club, winning the pre season cup, minor and major premierships in both first and reserve grade, club championship, fair play award and leading goal scorer.
Scott is one of the youngest first grade keepers in the NBN State Football League competition, and plays well above his age of 19. Scott’s aim is to finish his plumbing apprenticeship and then make a decision on his football future in the next two years. But until then he is more than happy to stay with the number one team in the NBN League.
Being part of this year’s champion team is just reward for a young man who has committed himself to his sport for the past seven years. Scott travels up to 12 hours a week for training and game days. He travels from Singleton to Newcastle twice a week for training and to the Central Coast for goalkeeper coaching and to Newcastle on game days.
Also for the past two years Scott has set aside an hour a week during the season to coach two of singleton’s up and coming youth goalkeepers from the Singleton junior club.
