THE Redbank Power Singleton Junior Rugby League continues its march toward the semi finals this weekend.
Mini-Mod football is at Scone Park, so don’t forget to take your winter woolies. Team photos will be done this Saturday for Under 12(3) at 9.20am and Under 16(3) at 10.00am, leaving the Under 13(2) as the only team left. The club would like to thank all teams last weekend for being organised with the five and a half hour photo session going off almost without a hitch.
School holidays begin next week which means a break in football for most teams. However some older age groups will be playing deferred Round 8 matches that were washed out due to rain. Our Under 12(1) and Under 16(2) will be required to play their deferred games midweek in the first week back to school, more information on all these fixtures next week.
Also good luck to our Under 15 players involved in the Group 21 side that plays their Country Divisional Championship Plate Final on Saturday at Muswellbrook.
As a consequence, the Under 15(2) game against South Lakes has been deferred as well.
Don’t forget to organise your team table for the fundraising trivia night on Saturday August 2. Tables can be secured now by visiting the York Street RSC for what will be a fun night.
Results from last weekend’s matches:
Westrac Under 16(2) – defeated Belmont North 34 - 24.
Singleton RSC Under 16(3) – were defeated by Windale 14 - 4.
Radiator Express Under 15(2) – were defeated by Waratah Mayfield 32 - 22.
Singleton RSC Under 15(5) – defeated Dudley 30 - 14.
Pirtek Under 14(2) – were defeated by Greta Branxton 26 - 20.
Crawfords Freightlines Under 13(2) – really met their match at Beresfield last weekend as the home side ran in seven tries to Singleton’s three, all scored by Blake Kersley. In a game that Singleton never really got into, it was hard to find too many positives away from the individual defensive play put on by Luke Garland, the hard running by Josh Kenny and the individual brilliance of Blake Kersley which speaks for itself. The final score was 34-18.The Old Dragon says it is time to share the workload in our games from now until the semis, otherwise the season will finish much sooner than thought.
Pneumatic Equipment Under 12(1) – a great training session led to a much improved effort from this team against the in form Morpeth side. Points were at a premium once again and it was Ben Butler who opened the scoring with a try in the corner after the ball travelled through several sets of hands. The defensive effort was first class with some powerful hits coming from Elijah Andrews, Adam Hamilton, Jacob O’Hara, Tom Hailes and Jonathan Williams. After the break it became a real arm wrestle with neither side giving an inch. A Morpeth player scored a great individual long range try that was converted giving them the lead and the match at 6-4. Coach Darren Ward was as happy as he could be as a losing coach but the reality is the boys have lost their last three games.
Andrews & Abrams Under 11 Red – defeated Muswellbrook Gold 46 – 16.
Hunter Custom Choppers Under 11 White – were defeated by Muswellbrook Blue 26 – 22.
Integra Coal Under 10 Red – were defeated by Scone 22 – 10.
Caltex Under 10 White – were defeated by Muswellbrook 16 – 12.
Caltex Under 7 Red - with determined defence the Reds paved a platform for their attack to allow a well earned victory. Best defenders were Josh Johnson, Isaac Martin and Cooper Ashby. Dean Swan (best game yet), Declan Bell, Bryson Deaves and Blake Trees proved a handful in attack, whilst captain Logan Osborne, Corey Ingold, Joseph Ragh, Brock Sheldon and Cooper Stair all held their line well.
Mine Assist Under 7 White - played a much improved Denman side that included a couple of speedsters. The most pleasing aspect of the team is individual improvements of all boys since the start of the season. Special mention to man of the match Cody Eveleigh, who tackled everything that moved. Jack Turner, Tom Caita Mandra, Zac McMinn and Cooper Toshack dominated. Travis Whalan and Dylan Old played well above their weight. Bowen Burley and Cadman Wozyni proved to themselves they have ability. Ashley Rose and Sam Snelgrove are getting more involved and Noel Woods is the bruiser in defence.
Gromor Under 6 Red and White – took part in another local derby on Saturday at home with the Red Pups coming away with a narrow win. The game was a close battle all day and exemplified the three ‘Fs’ that Under 6 is all about - ‘Football, Fun and Fair’. Every player on the day played their hearts out and should be proud of their efforts as we have all improved so much this year. Special mention goes to Cody Harris for scoring his first try of the season, along with Ethyn Enright, Jayden Windle and Liam Harris, who hit the ball up like a junior version of Steve Simpson. Both sides were aided by some talented moves from both Jaymon Mathews and Mason McDougall who had a little advantage by eating super bananas before the game.
