Grand final berth for under 10s

5/09/2008 11:43:00 AM
THE season is drawing to a close for the Pace Engineers Singleton Roosters, with the U/16s playing their Preliminary Final last Friday night, and the 10s participating in the finals gala series.

Thomas Wines U/10s

The youngest Roosters travelled to Nelson Bay and entered their match against Wallsend with a side depleted by sickness and injury, on a wet and miserable morning after a long drive.

However, in the best display of the season, the U10s showed a lot of skill in kicking to position and looking to pass. Every player contributed positively to a team effort seeing Singleton win by a few goals. The U10s now get the chance to play in the grand final day next Sunday at Newcastle Number 1 Oval.

There were some highlights. Franklin Wright kicked his first goal of the season along with Jack Egan and Ivory Gould. Liam Hare was in the game from the first bounce to the final siren in a best on ground performance, including kicking a goal for the other team in the final quarter. The “double” Baileys worked well all day and young Remy Thomas tackled fiercely all day. To cap off the day Same Hope kicked a goal after the siren.

Cole Air Services U/16s

Last Friday evening the Roosters travelled down to No1 Sportsground to take on the Warners Bay Bulldogs for the right to progress through to this week’s grand final against Cardiff. Both teams were pumped for a big game, and all on hand were looking forward to a cracker of a game.

Unfortunately for the Roosters, the Doggies bolted from the first bounce, and were never headed throughout the match. No matter what Singleton threw at them, Warners Bay counted with great team footy right across the park. The Roosters gave it all, never giving up, making the Dogs fight for every goal. In the end though they just had too much for Singleton on the night to record a comfortable 10.13.73 to 3.10.28 win.

Captain Alex Mitchell, and the team of: Jackson Bower, Adam Cooke, Daniel Cooke, Johny Cornelius, Clayton Coward, Steven Dawe, Jake Duncan, Jordan Ernst, Christopher Faulder, Abe Gibson, Kurtis Grant, Mitchell Harrod, Jarryd Ingram, Alex Moore, Kai Neville, Andrew Parsons, Travis Phillips, Chris Redmond, Jason Ritchie, Harley Rohan, Taylor Scott, Brad Spencer and Matthew Spencer can all be very proud of their efforts. Their courage and commitment saw them lift themselves from last place mid season to finish equal second on the ladder and challenge for a grand final spot.

Well done Roosters!!!!!

A reminder to all the season’s presentation day is scheduled for Saturday, September 13 to be held at Rose Point Park. For more details, see the notices section of the paper. Hope to see you all there.
