AUSTRALIA’S wife carrying champions, Lyneece Garland and Jason Doyle will live the dream when they fly out on an all-expense paid trip to Finland next Thursday.
The two are set to compete at the home of world wife carrying, Sonkajarvi, when the World Championships get underway on July 5.
“I’m counting down the days,” said an excited Lyneece speaking to The Singleton Argus.
“It’s not everyday you win a trip to Finland.”
The pair will spend four nights in Japan before flying to Finland for the titles.
They are expecting a strong field of contenders with 44 competitors set to race including the renowned Estonians.
“It’s a pretty tough competition,” said Lyneece.
“The guy that won last year won the race in 58 secs.”
The good friends have been doing their research on the race and have been talking to other international competitors including Countryfest’s Irish star, Julia Galvin on what to expect from climate to track conditions.
“I’ve been chatting to Julia on Facebook. She says it is about 25 to 34 degrees over there at the moment,” Lyneece said.
While, Australian champions are entering the race with hopes to gain a podium spot, the two are more focused on enjoying themselves and the experience.
“We want to win something because I think it would be good to have on our resumes.
“We are just going to try our best and have fun.”
Jason and Lyneece will have at least two fans in the crowd, with Lyneece’s parents, Stephen and Robin set to join them in Sonkajarvi.
Both wanted to thank sponsors Countryfest, Finnish Tourist Board and Finnair for their support in getting them to the World Championships.
