Showtime arrives

26/09/2008 2:54:00 PM
SINGLETON, it’s that time of year again when the Singleton Show hits town.

Today will see the start of two-days of action and fun filled entertainment for the whole community to enjoy.

Plus there is the horse and dairy goat judging on Sunday.

A strong number of entries in this year’s show has ensured it will be another cracker.

This year sees the return of horses to the show arena, absent in 2007 due to the equine influenza outbreak.

Entries have been strong in the local agriculture, cooking and craft, horticulture, photography and art sections.

Categories include cooking, jams, scones, handicrafts, sewing, knitting, art, photography, fancy fibres, horticulture, flowers and poultry and pigeons.

Today’s action kicks off at 8am with camp drafting followed by events such as dairy cattle judging, horse sports, fairground and rides, magic shows and much more.

Tonight the ever popular rodeo will burst its way onto the Showground arena with a massive line-up of riders set to compete.

Rodeo organiser, Peter Heffernan said entries in the rodeo were up by 40 from last year’s event and said it would be a “huge” night with over 75 bull riders competing and 25 saddle bronc riders.

Tomorrow’s action will again kick off early with events taking place from 9am until 10pm tomorrow night.

There is something for everyone to enjoy from beef cattle judging, the Oakvale animal nursery, woodchopping, dog high jumps, freestyle motocross team, chainsaw post splitting, demolition derby, woodwork display and of course the fireworks.

The main pavilion was a hive of activity yesterday as cooking and craft judging took place.
