EMMA Mellows has been crowned Singleton’s Showgirl for 2008.
Miss Mellows accepted the award on Saturday in front of a strong crowd with Jacqui Pfeffer named this year’s runner up.
Talking to The Singleton Argus yesterday, Miss Mellows said she was thrilled with the win, and looked forward to the year ahead as Singleton Showgirl, a competition she had wanted to enter since she was a little girl.
“It’s something I have thought about doing for years but I haven’t done,” she said.
“I am really excited to have the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people and some inspiring people, to get into what’s happening in town and to attend events I wouldn’t usually go to,” she added.
Miss Mellows said it was a tremendous honour to represent Singleton.
“Singleton is such a great town. The people are fantastic. I love being able to walk down the street and know people and be able to have a chat,” she said.
She also acknowledged fellow entrants Jacqui Pfeffer, Donna Dodds and particularly good friend Lyneece Garland for entering this year’s competition.
“I was so scared, I couldn’t hold the microphone because I was shaking, I could hardly get it to my mouth,” she laughed of her speech.
Since winning the competition, Miss Mellows phone has overloaded with messages of congratulations with plenty of support from family, friends and her work colleagues who even joked about holding their own competition if she wasn’t successful.
