ST Catherine’s Catholic College took out a host of awards at the recent Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter Eisteddfod.
The school’s concert band was pleasantly surprised to take out second place in the concert band/second instrumental category.
Competing against schools from across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Upper Hunter areas, the 12-piece band was thrilled with a silver finish.
The awards didn’t stop there.

Rounding out the awards coup was Dominic Godschalk and Hannah Haines who took out third place in the flute duet.
Concert band director, Hayley Woodward said the awards were a case of third time lucky.
“We’ve have entered three times before and are very proud to get second place especially with such a small group,” she said.
While, the band’s big performance for the year has now been and gone, the band will continue weekly practices on Friday afternoons as well as performances at the school and the community.
