Bikers rally into town

MOTORBIKE riders from as far afield as Coffs Harbour, The Illawarra and even Bathurst will head into town this weekend when the Singleton Classic Motorcycle Club will host its annual rally.

The event that is held on the first weekend of May is now in its thirteenth year and is regarded as one of the best rallies of its kind in New South Wales.

The ride and competition will feature vintage bikes but riders with more recent makes and models are also encouraged to take part.

This year features a 100kms ride out to Jerrys Plains, out to Denman with lunch at Jeff Wolfgang’s place and his collection of old relics will be on display, and then back to Singleton.

Jeff Wolfgang’s collection features a range of old machinery including tractors, old vehicles, a convict ball and chain and an English-made gas-fired engine that once powered the Singleton Gas works will be on show.

His extensive collection is destined for the proposed Denman Heritage Village.

A shorter ride will also be available for the older bikes that will go directly to Mr Wolfgang’s property with a breakdown vehicle travelling close behind if they fail to make the distance.

The day will also involve a competition to judge the best motorbikes on show according to their year of manufacture, such as best sidecar outfit, pre-1930 and for each decade up to 1978, (bikes must be 30 years old to qualify as vintage).

The winning bikes will be announced at a dinner at Singleton Bowling Club on Saturday night and a breakfast will also be held there on Sunday morning.
